Terms of sale and use
These terms cover the free planner at torsalis.com/try and the file you can buy. "We" means the company named at the foot of this page; "you" means the person using Torsalis. You can reach a human through the contact form — it goes to a monitored inbox and we answer from it.
The free planner
The planner at torsalis.com/try is free to use. There is no account, no sign-up and no time limit, and every feature that produces an answer is included. It runs entirely inside your browser: the figures you type are never sent to us. Your work-in-progress is kept in your own browser's storage. It is not synced and not backed up, and because browsers clear stored data, treat it as temporary. Clearing your browser data clears it.
We offer the free planner as-is. We may change it or stop offering it. Because none of your data is on our side, nothing of yours is lost if we do.
What $99 buys
You buy one file: a single self-contained HTML page that is the complete planner, plus the four things the free version deliberately leaves out — saving a plan, exporting the table, printing or making a PDF, and creating a share link.
You get a personal, perpetual, worldwide license to use that file on any machine you own, for your own planning or your household's. It is not a subscription, it does not expire, and it does not check in with a server. You may keep copies and back it up.
You may not resell it, publish it, or distribute it to other people. Every copy is stamped with the buyer's name, email and order number, in the page and in the print header, so a copy that circulates is traceable to the order that bought it. Removing the stamp is a breach of these terms.
Updates are free, always. Fixes and improvements to this version are published at no charge, and your original download link always hands you the current build. A tool people check against their own spreadsheets has no business leaving arithmetic we know to be wrong in someone's hands, so corrections in particular will never be gated. A future major version may one day be sold as a separate upgrade; if that ever happens, the file you own keeps working exactly as it does today.
Your first year of Torsalis Online is included. Torsalis Online is a hosted version — the same planner in any browser, with live prices and plans that follow you across devices. It is not built yet and is not sold separately. When it launches, buyers of the file get the first year at no charge, and $29/yr after that if they want to keep it. The file never requires it and never stops working without it.
Payment and tax
Payment is handled by Polar Software Inc., who act as the merchant of record. That means Polar is the seller on your receipt, and Polar collects and remits VAT, GST or sales tax where it is due. Their terms apply to the payment itself; these terms apply to the software. We never see or store your card details.
Refunds
Fourteen days, no questions. Reply to your receipt within fourteen days of buying and we refund it. You do not have to give a reason; one favor, tell us why in a sentence, because that is the only way the thing gets better.
A great deal of the planner is free to use before you buy: what your position is worth after tax, the projection, the bottom line, what it would take to retire earlier, the concentration check and the crash test all run at torsalis.com/try with no account, no email and no time limit, and the methodology shows the arithmetic behind all of it. The file adds which order to sell in, thousands of simulated futures, and keeping the work — so you can see how the thing thinks before you pay for the rest of it.
The file is delivered the moment you pay, so we ask you to consent to immediate delivery at checkout. The refund above is ours and we honor it whatever that consent says.
Buyers in the EU and UK have a statutory right to withdraw within fourteen days, which for digital content delivered immediately is waived where you consent to immediate delivery and acknowledge losing that right. Polar Software, Inc. is the reseller and merchant of record for your purchase, and the Buyer Terms you accept at checkout govern that consent and your statutory rights against the seller.
If something is genuinely wrong, tell us. The file never arrived, it will not open, the math is in error — say so through the contact form and we will fix it, or refund you. That is our discretion rather than your entitlement, and we exercise it willingly: a tool people check against their own spreadsheets has no business leaving anybody stuck with one that does not work.
This is not financial advice
Torsalis is a calculator. It projects arithmetic forward from assumptions you enter. It does not know your circumstances, it does not recommend buying or selling anything, and using it does not create an advisory or fiduciary relationship of any kind. We are not a registered investment adviser, broker-dealer, tax adviser or accountant.
Projections are hypothetical and are not a prediction of any actual outcome. Real markets, real tax law and your real life will all differ. The methodology page states the known simplifications plainly — no progressive brackets, no RMDs, IRMAA or ACA modeling, no Social Security taxation rules, a single state rate, and growth applied once a year. Decisions about your money are yours, and we'd encourage you to check them with a professional who knows your situation.
No warranty, and what we are liable for
The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that it is free of errors.
To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of Torsalis is limited to the amount you actually paid us, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, including lost profits or investment losses. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for anything that cannot lawfully be limited.
Price data
If you ask the planner to fetch a price, the ticker you typed goes to the price service directly from your browser — CoinGecko for crypto, Finnhub for stocks using a free key you supply yourself. Those services have their own terms and availability, and neither we nor they guarantee that a quote is accurate or current. You can always type prices in by hand.
Changes, and the law that applies
We may update these terms; the version in force is the one on this page, dated at the top. Changes never apply retroactively to a purchase you already made.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, and the courts there have exclusive jurisdiction — except that if you are a consumer, you keep the protections and the venue of your own country's law where that law says so.
Who you are dealing with
Torsalis is made and sold by Buchanan Consulting LLC, doing business as Torsalis, of 5753 Hwy 85 N #5096, Crestview, FL 32536. Payment is taken by Polar Software, Inc. as reseller and merchant of record, and they are the seller named on your receipt.
